Cat Food Portion Calculator

Enter your cat’s details to estimate how many calories and how much fresh food to feed per day. Uses the cat-specific energy multipliers (a neutered adult sits near 1.2 × RER, not the 1.6 × a dog gets).

Frequently asked questions

How much should I feed my dog per day?

Feed to your dog's daily energy requirement (MER), not a fixed cup size. A neutered adult needs about 1.6 × RER; puppies need 2–3 × RER. This calculator does that math for you.

How do I convert calories to grams of food?

Divide daily calories by the food’s caloric density. Cooked fresh dog food is roughly 1.1–1.5 kcal per gram, so we use ~1.3 kcal/g as an estimate.

Is a calorie calculator enough for a homemade diet?

No. Calories tell you the amount; they say nothing about calcium, minerals or vitamins. A homemade bowl also has to meet AAFCO nutrient profiles — that’s what the full VeraBowl recipe does.
